The Small Town in Black & White: Photography Exhibit

Looking forward to checking this out.  Curious to know if the small town images are those of NJ or elsewhere in the USA….There is something about black & white photography especially that lends a nostalgic feel to images.

Newark Museum Speakers Bureau

Looking for a Speaker and presentation for your group, library or community organization?  The Newark Museum Volunteer Organization’s Speakers Bureau offers six different PowerPoint presentations led by trained and knowledgeable presenters.  Each 60 minute presentation offers beautiful images of the museum’s collections, interesting anecdotes given by presenters, and time for questions and discussion.  And because the Museum hopes attendees will want to take a look at its collections for themselves and visit, each receives a guest pass for a future visit, as well information about upcoming events.

Lovely Little Christmas Card from Montclair…..

I have fallen in love with the “vintagy” Christmas Cards available at Tilia Press – I found card this on Etsy.com and have since gone to Tilia’s website (after ordering a box of 10 of these unique cards for about $14).  I loved what I read; a NJ business and the artist, Anne Hammes, creates her cards out of a love for the written word (which is almost becoming extinct), paper and pattern.  I think this is why everyone loves receiving Christmas Cards – an email just doesn’t cut it – it’s the artwork, that can be shared to all your guests at Christmas.  Tilia Press prides itself as well as creating their cards from “…100% post-consumer waste paper that is FSC certified and created with renewable energy sources.”  The handwritten thank you note from Anne and the “Bee” Bag (that came gratis!) were not lost on me!  It was a sweet & thoughtful touch.  I will be back to her website:  tiliapress.com – she has all sorts of cards for sale, not just at Christmas.

Artscapes Painting & Drawing at the Jersey Shore

I have taken a watercolor painting class with Lorraine Niemla, one of two talented artists at Artscapes.  I’m not a gifted painter, by an means – Lorraine is knowledgeable and encouraging & just plain nice to hang out with.

I have it on good authority they teach wonderful art at the sea shore in NJ during April & July.  Click on Artscapes & you can check out the schedule.
